Not Only A Son

"The angel of the Lord appeared to her and said, 'You are barren and childless, but you are going to become pregnant and give birth to a son...You will become pregnant and have a son whose head is never to be touched by a razor because the boy is to be a Nazirite, dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.'"  (Judges 13: 3,5)
The story predicts of Samson's birth. Samson's mother (referred to in the story as Manoah's wife), was childless and probably, have been waiting for one for too long. Then, here comes an angel who brought a good news, "You'll have a son. One who will lead in delivering Israel from Philistines..."

The catch in the angel's news isn't the birth of a son. If it is, he could have said, "You know what, woman, you'll have a son." Period. But no, after telling her that she'll bear a son, he immediately told her that he has a special calling - he'll be set apart for God and will begin the deliverance from Philistines. God will give her not just a son but rather, a special son.

Then it dawned upon me, our God isn't out there to give us mediocre gifts! He is out there to give us His best! James 1:17 says, "Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."

So have you been praying for someone or something and it's taking too long? Don't fret. Instead, have faith. Knowing that our God is an excellent giver makes all the waiting worth it.
