Stuck In Reverse: A Mixtape

Some time last year, after flanking for the nth (I'm exaggerating) time in school, I've created a mix with a theme about sadness, desperation and hope but for some reason deleted it. However, after all the things that had happened to me circa 2011-2012, I've been quite inspired to make similar mix.
  1. The Cave (Mumford & Sons) - "I know my call despite my faults and despite my growing fears."
  2. Holocene (Bon Iver) - I guess Justin Vernon says it all,  "It's partly named after the (geological) era, but it's also the name of a bar in Portland where I had a dark night of the soul... the title is a metaphor for when you're not doing well. But it's also a song about redemption and realizing that you're worth something; that you're special and not special at the same time."
  3. Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want (The Smiths) - The song of desperation. 'Nuff said.
  4. Hiding Tonight (Alex Turner) - For those moments when I'm so down, want to hibernate and postpone life.
  5. Vultures (John Mayer) - John Mayer is my lyrical hero for he possesses the words to my feelings. I also want to include War Of My Life and Gravity but 8tracks disallows including an artist more than once in a mix.
  6. Thrive (Switchfoot) - YES. YES. YES. Can I just say yes to the entire lyrics? We share the same sentiment!
  7. Blackbird (The Beatles) - "Blackbird singing in the dead of night, take these broken wings and learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise." I don't know why, but I have an uncanny habit of including a song from the Fab Four whenever I make a mix.
  8. Worn (Tenth Avenue North) - "I'm tired, I'm worn. My heart is heavy from the work it takes to keep on breathing."; "And I know You can give me rest. So I cry out with all that I have left." Ah, the latest addition to my depression playlist.
  9. Fix You (Coldplay) - Le classic. Ha. If this were a person, it would probably be my shoulder to cry on.
You can listen to the mix here.
